"Actress In A Leading Role" 1973

And moving right along to another year:

1973
And the Academy selected:
  • Ellen Burstyn in The Exorcist
  • Glenda Jackson in A Touch Of Class
  • Marsha Mason in Cinderella Liberty
  • Barbara Streisand in The Way We Were
  • Joanne Woodward in Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams
So, will I agree with the Academy or name someone else the best of 1973?

I think you'll go with either Jackson or Streisand. Or even Burstyn. Pretty forgotten year....

This could actually go anyway. I wonder how Mason will do.

This was kind of a strange year, and like Malcolm said, forgotten. Its the year where everyone said that they "just gave it" to Jackson, but her win was a surprise. I'm not sure who was the front-runner, but Burstyn's chances were ruined thanks to Warners trying to hide the Linda Blair issue.

Not a very well-remembered year, but not really a bad one either. Given how much you like Marsha Mason I suspect you'll pick her again, or at least rank her pretty high.

Well, I'm not a huge fan of Marsha Mason, I just happen to like some of her performances. I also am very fond of Ellen Burstyn and Glenda Jackson...

Another year considered weak, full of boring performances. But let's wait Sage's opinions! I'm antecipating this year very much!^^

Thanks! We'll see if I find it boring :)

I hope Jackson wins this (and she has a good chance I think), but I have a feeling that Mason might get your #1 spot.

Yeah, very exciting! Will Marsha win a third time? But you also love Jackson's performance! Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Everything you write about Jackson is spot on - just a fascinating performance!
